Events
The UDINZ approach is to run a year long programme of events, rather than an annual conference. We believe this makes access to insights and networking more accessible to all - a “Conference of many parts” so to speak. You choose what you engage with. We’re pleased to say too that once you’re a member, the vast majority of that content is available free of further charge.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Please note most of our events are free to the staff of UDINZ member organisations (all in the interests of building our cross sectoral community). There are also a limited number of tickets available to buy for those who are not yet members - either prospective members, those we’re already talking to and who are wanting a “try before they buy" option, or members of the public. Costs apply to the latter two groups.

Project: St Giles Park View, Kilbirnie Cres
St Giles Park View is a 20-unit, architecturally designed residential development located on the former church site at 44 Kilbirnie Crescent. Located just minutes from the Wellington CBD and overlooking the popular Kilbirnie Park, this represents the start of a new wave of invigoration of one of the city’s targeted growth suburbs.
This project offers a unique case study in balancing premium inner-suburban living with complex natural hazard planning. Developed across four blocks, the site lies on the edge of the identified tsunami and flood hazard zones, requiring innovative and integrated responses to resilience and design.
For this project the team navigated these planning challenges while maximising density and maintaining high urban design standards in a tightly constrained, high-amenity location. With increasing pressure to intensify near urban centres, this project is a timely example of how smart design can unlock tricky sites in a way that’s viable, attractive, and future-focused.
Come and hear how this project contributes to shaping Wellington’s mid-density future.

Project: One Three Five Victoria
One Three Five Victoria is the first large-scale, build-to-rent development in Wellington, representing a significant step forward in how the city approaches rental housing. As Wellington’s rental market continues to grow, developer Cheops Holdings Limited, along with McKee Fehl Constructors Ltd and the Kirva Trust, is leading the way in creating a rental option that offers both flexibility and stability. With “Renting with Roots,” the group has introduced an alternative for residents who prefer the flexibility of renting but also want to build a life in Wellington’s vibrant heart.
Targeting a Homestar rating of 7, the development is exceeding Healthy Home standards to create warm, dry, and energy-efficient living spaces. The eco-conscious design includes sustainable materials and smart technology, giving residents a comfortable, healthy environment and reducing environmental impact.
The property’s thoughtful design includes several unique features:
● Pet-friendly accommodations allow tenants to enjoy their homes with their beloved animals.
● Customisable interiors which empower tenants to add their personal flair to their apartment, making it truly their own.
● Secure bike storage and parking options, including EV and e-bike charging facilities, support green, urban living.
● Convenient amenities such as discrete parcel drop services, and a dedicated property manager to enhance everyday living and peace of mind.
With its central location, One Three Five Victoria seeks to offer residents the convenience of city living, with easy access to Wellington’s shops, dining, entertainment, and transport so tenants can experience the best of urban life while enjoying a premium, thoughtfully designed living space.

Projects: “The Bay” at Island Bay & The Rotunda, Oriental Parade
“The Bay” is a boutique mixed-use development by Watson Group, delivering a vibrant and resilient coastal apartment and commercial complex. Combining residential and commercial spaces within a single footprint, its curved façade draws inspiration from the local landscape and history. Designed for diverse lifestyles, from retirees and downsizers to first home buyers and young families, The Bay offers lifts, oversized garages, double-level apartments, and 15 private balconies. Built to IL3 (Importance Level 3) standard, it provides enhanced seismic resilience, ensuring long-term safety, durability, and peace of mind. The complex will be home to a new Mediterranean restaurant, from The Mosaic Group, a popular Wellington restaurant chain.
We'll also hear about their work on the Wellington Pavilion (formerly the Oriental Bay Band Rotunda) a development designed to revive a heritage waterfront landmark in central Wellington. It merges community, leisure, and hospitality within a striking new architectural form. The Wellington Pavilion will reimagine the heritage structure - blending history, hospitality and the Wellington coastline into a modern civic icon.

UDINZ Webinar: Update on the Draft National Infrastructure Plan
Monday 21 July
Online via Zoom
Free for UDINZ Members
$50 for Prospective Member (those actively considering/in discussions with UDINZ about membership - a “try before you buy” option)
$80 for Non-members

The New Zealand Infrastructure Commission Te Waihanga recently released the Draft National Infrastructure Plan at their Annual Symposium. It sets out the key challenges New Zealand needs to prepare for over the next 30 years and how our investment approach will need to change. For many sectors it means a revived focus on the most certain of spend — maintenance and renewals. For others it means shifting investment patterns to accommodate a larger and increasingly ageing population, to decarbonise, or to prepare for more extreme weather that will occur with greater regularity. For all, it means grappling with investment under rising uncertainty — whether geopolitical, geophysical, technological or spatial.
Join us at this webinar for UDINZ members where we will hear from Peter Nunns on the Draft National Infrastructure Plan and you'll have the chance to ask questions and even provide comments in the chat.
They are genuinely seeking feedback from our sector on how the plan can be improved, whether they’ve got the right key challenges, and if the recommendations they're making are sufficient and proportionate. Feedback on the plan closes on 6 August and this is an effective way to inform yourself on what's proposed and why.

Join us at this UDINZ "Innovation in Housing: Thinking that's outside the box" webinar where we'll hear from Brendon Green about SeaWell being a joint initiative between the NZ & US SeaWell operations in Matakana & Santa Barbara respectively.
It's a desalination technology that could provide an significantly more cost effective alternative to expensive water infrastructure for the North Shore or maybe even just buy time with a solution that enables us to delay significant investment required to reinforce supplies from Waitākere, Hunua and Waikato.
We all know about the capacity constraints impacting development. Might this be an alternative that changes the picture?
SeaWell is working with Iwi & interest is being expressed in other coastal parts of NZ where housing developments need water infrastructure support.
